Legal Assistant
9 months / 36 weeks / 720 hours = 44 credit hours

The Legal Assistant program provides basic legal instruction and application of the law.  Students learn about legal terminology, critical thinking and how to do research and writing. 

Students receive a hands-on learning environment to develop an understanding of the functions of a Legal Assistant.  The curriculum is integrated to simulate the legal work environment.   Upon completion of course work, students participate in a guided Internship to gain practical experience.

Upon graduation from this program, the student will be  able to understand principles and procedures of the law, read, interpret and analyze legal issues. 

The student will be able to perform traditional and computer legal research, draft documents, prepare trial folders, prepare evidence exhibits and assist in trial preparation.  The student will also learn to compile information and facts important to the case, learn about managing cases and interview clients and witnesses.  This program will prepare a student to become certified as a Notary Public.
